We are a group of Dads & Lads that get together for a game of hurling once or twice a week.
Our aim is to open up hurling to the wider Lisburn community, making it more accessible regardless of experience, skill, fitness level or background.

Dublin Blitz - A great success for our hurlers
I joined in June 2024 with the only hurling I had ever done was for PE in 3rd year. A great bunch of lads and a brilliant place to learn the best sport in the world. I never felt uncomfortable and my hurling and fitness have improved beyond my expectations. Everyone should have the chance to play in a blitz. Great craic on the pitch playing teams from all over Ireland and a well earned pint after.

I had never played hurling before and I joined the social hurling team in Lisburn in February 2024.
They've been very welcoming and supportive and I love getting out for a hurl every week. My fitness has really improved, and it's been great meeting new people.

I played hurling for a number of years as a teenager but university life lead me away from the game, and it took 20 years for me to get back into it.
In October 2024, I noticed Lisburn had a social hurling team and joined straight away. Highly recommend it for fitness and mental health!

I had never picked up a hurl before in my life, didn't know the rules, wasn't sure if I'd even be able to hit a sliothar, and had no fitness, not qualities usually associated with the fastest ball sport in the world, but when asked if I'd give it a try, I couldn't think of a reason why not! And from that 1st training session I knew I was hooked. Recommend it to anyone, whether you're considering returning to the sport or are new to the sport like myself! Great craic and great hurling, ask yourself why not?!

Social hurling is open to anyone, not playing league hurling games, willing to give it a go. It is play at your own risk just like any group of mates organising weekly 5 aside football matches.
We play a weeknight at Lisburn Leisureplex 4G pitch & Sunday mornings in Wallace Park @ 11.30am.
We have spare hurls & helmets and operate on a "try before you buy" status to encourage participation.
It is run broadly on a "pay as you play" basis to cover any pitch fees; with a small contribution to administration.
Theres no obligations beyond playing when you want; no skills or experience required.
Contact any of our social media platforms or myself Michael Stewart.
The scheme is designed for players over 35; in order to promote men's mental & physical fitness.
Social Hurling is not a GAA league based entity & does not fall under GAA player injury coverage & obligations. However, there are locally, regionally & nationally organised blitze where participants can play self refereed games at their own risk.
All fitness levels welcome; better mental health flows from taking part & fitness levels usually follow accordingly.
Have a question or ready to join the team?
